Mike has been creating track champions for over three decades. He led the Knoxville High School Track & Field program to six district championships as well as six top-ten finishes at the state meet. He also helped coach the WDM Valley Tigers to three state team championships, setting an all-time Iowa scoring record in 2019. 

Mike has coached state title winners in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, and the shuttle hurdle relay. Four of his relay teams set state records in Iowa in these events. Coach Cunningham has led many of his athletes to elite recognition - over 20 were named First Team All-State, nearly 40 were named Elite All-State Performers, and two relay teams earned All-American status under his leadership. 

Mike is currently serving as the Speed & Agility Coordinator at Valley High School in West Des Moines, where he coaches speed and agility for all team sports.
